Red Fish Blue Fish
Red Fish Blue Fish is the creation of Katie and Trent Harvison, and is based in the picturesque village of Eumundi, on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
Katie tells their story…
It all began in 2000 when we were exploring various ideas for a market stall. Our town – Eumundi – is home to a world-famous art and craft market and we figured it was time to embrace the market culture, let our creativity shine and come up with something fun to make and sell.
A friend’s vintage 1960s beach coat proved the inspiration for our very first towel shirt, and so it all began…
From the outset, we were keen to make the garments bright and bold in colour and pattern, but also seriously practical.
The shirts have proven great for kids at the beach, for swimming lessons, as a bathrobe. They are also excellent for grown-ups with a passion for swimming, surfing, fishing, or anything vaguely aquatic.
After a couple of years of making just towel shirts (under our earlier business name of The Eumundi Towel Shirt Co), we realised the need to expand our range.
First came our three-quarter length towel pants, and then mini skirts, and more recently short shorts – all made with a draw-string elastic waist for comfort and mileage (children invariably get many years wear from each size).
In 2008, we rebranded to become Red Fish Blue Fish.
Over the years, we’ve traded at the fabulous Mindil Beach Markets in Darwin (where we lived for a spell) but our main base has been Eumundi Markets (the biggest and best market in Australia), where you will find us every Wednesday and Saturday.
Red Fish Blue Fish is proudly Australian made (with our garments handmade in Eumundi) and limited edition. There’s nothing remotely mass-produced about the way we work. In buying Red Fish Blue Fish, you are supporting a small business and some creative types with a passion for terry towelling!
